4 MOH Recipients Currently Live In Illinois

203   Medals of Honor are Accredited to Illinois

  • Korean War Illinois-born Recipient General William Dean's capture by the Koreans was so closely guarded a secret his MOH was presented posthumously to his wife.

"For Conspicuous Gallantry and Intrepidity in Action At the Risk of Life Above and Beyond the Call of Duty"

Due the large number of Medals of Honor accredited to Illinois we have divided the Recipients into three separate pages.

Civil War
(112)

Other Wars
(81)

Born in IL with MOHs Accredited to other States (32)

The following Medal of Honor Recipients were BORN in the State of Illinois  but either moved to or enlisted in military service in another state to which their award is accredited.  By virtue of their birth, they are still among our "Home Town Heroes".
