Rank and Organization: Second Lieutenant, Company B, 2d Vermont Infantry. Place and Date: At Spotsylvania, Va., 12 May 1864. Entered Service At: Grafton, Vt. Birth: Grafton, Vt. Date Of Issue: 24 March 1892.

Citation:

While voluntarily serving as a staff officer successfully withdrew a regiment across and around a severely exposed position to the rest of the command; was severely wounded.
