Rank and Organization: Sergeant Major, 10th New York Cavalry. Place and Date: At Trevilian Station, Va., 11 June 1864. Birth: Cattaraugus County, N.Y. Date of Issue: 1 April 1898.

Citation:

Voluntarily carried a message which stopped the firing of a Union battery into his regiment, in which service he crossed a ridge in plain view and swept by the fire of both armies.
