PFC Harold W. Jinright, was there at the Chosin Reservoir with the 1st Marine Div. He would like to complete his ribbons received in the campaign. He received the Presidential Unit citation and is not sure how it looks. He does not talk very much about the the battles. But does say his job was to make snow balls, I Don't think so. He now has frostbite to his feet and refuses to receive any VA benifits for his injury. Does any know when the next reunion in the So. Calif. Area please let me know.

My father was in the Marine Corps. He graduated from bootcamp at Parris Island in 1963, then he went to Vietnam. This past October, exactly 40 years after the date of his graduation, his platoon had the honor of visiting Parris Island. About 15 men from his platoon and their wives, me, and one of their Drill Instructors visited. I've always had respect for soldiers from all branches, but this experience made me even more proud of each and every one. This is a great website. It's easy to use, resourceful, and very well done. Why can't the people of the world understand the concepts of freedom. Look at our way of life. We have mixed races working together, we have mixed religions that don't get along in other countries, living side by side and cause no grief to their neighbors. We help nations in trouble, we were there when the iron curtain went up and stood by Western Germany when times got tough. How many really know what it took to pull off the Berlin air lift. When you look at the Axes of WWII, and after WWII when the alias rebuilt those nations, look at how much better peoples lives were in Japan and Germany. Were the people in Japan and Germany happier before WWII or after WWII. Freedom is a way of life, muslims in the middle east don't understand. Muslims in America understand, I wonder why they don't do what Martin Luther King did, and start a Nation wide peaceful march, for all Muslims to hear. LET FREEDOM RING!!!, Muslims of free nations, tell the world how much happier your lives are because you are free. Let what makes America great, embrace your way of live. Our true greatness here in America is our diversity. Look at what our forefathers wrote, they knew so much... The Constitution, the Bill of Rights... We the People, I regret I have one life to give my country..., Under God..., Our flag was still there.... These are more then words, these are ideals America was built on. I am looking for information on my father John Albert Trax,Born in East Pittsburgh PA, he died in 1971 when I was 15. As far as I know he was a truck driver in the army in WW2,His service # was 33 431 179,he was one of the first to liberate France and recieved (4) bronze stars. I didn't know the impact of seeing Captain Warren Leroy Anderson's name come up when I typed "Vietnam MIA, Captain Warren L. Anderson." I still have his POW/MIA bracelet which I wore for many years waiting for him to come home. Seeing his name brought back the memory of the sorrow I felt when he didn't get off the plane with the freed POWs. Seeing his virtual name rubbing on the wall brought the same sudden grief I felt when I saw it in person. I'm sad for Col. Anderson and his family and friends, and all of the young men and their families and friends, and me too. I really will always remember Capt. Warren L. Anderson and the day he went missing and his birthday. I pray that everyone who misses him will find peace and comfort during their lives. I will shake his hand and hug him, thank him for the great sacrifice he made for all of us, and tell him how happy I am to finally meet him. Thank you so very much for this website. I arrived in NJ on Sept. 12th. I was sent to provide support to the relief effort to families from NJ that had lost loved ones. It seemed at that time that those that lost loved ones from NJ were the forgotten ones. I worked with government and volunteer agencies to radify that. I will never forget Liberty State Park and the activites there. I will never forget the efforts of everyone to help. I feel honored to have been a small part of that effort.
I will never recover, although I will go on. Freedom comes at a high price. We continue to pay the cost.

Wow!! What an outstanding site!
My dad was a US Marine officer in the pacific in WWII, and he was the first one to tell me about the Nisei soldiers in WWII. His first experience with them was while he was on division duty on Maui when some fights broke out between the marines of the 4th division and some recently returned members of the 100th and 442nd. The fights were pretty bad, and the marines had to get a quick education on who those doggies were. Although my dad never had very good feelings toward Japan as a result of his wartime experiences, he had tremendous respect and admiration for the Nisei and especially of their role in WWII. He told me that the Japanese were a very tough and formidable enemy. We were just really lucky to have those guys (the Nisei) on our side.
WHEN IS HOLLYWOOD GOING TO TELL THIS STORY? They have made movies about just about everything else. Maybe the real story of the 442nd and the other Japanese-Americans in WWII is too hard to believe.

Thank you for this site which allows me to post remembrance of my first cousin, "Quentin R. Nordin," awarded the Purple Heart in October 1944 after Leyte Gulf. He was aboard the USS Suwannee CVE27 which was struck by a Japanese Kamikaze plane. The damage took place Oct 25-26, 1944. Quentin was listed MIA. His name is on a plaque in the Philippines. There is nothing here in the United States to honor his memory and recognize the sacrifice he made. I hope this will help keep alive the memory of those Navy men who paid the ultimate price aboard the USS Suwannee CVE27 in WW2.

For the past two years, the VARO, Portland, Or. has celebrated National Medal of Honor recognition day on March 25th. This year, Col. and Mrs. Joe Jackson drove from their home in Washington to spend the day with the employees of the VA as well as federal employees from other agencies in the building. Although that's been 4 months ago - employees are still talking about the day they spent with Joe and his wife. I was born in 1937 and so remember very little of the war other than fear. In 1968 I first learned about internment camps for Japanese citizens when moving to Lovington, NM. There I discovered the most amazing fruit and vegetable farm and was told it was owned by a Japanese family. Puzzled, I inquired how they came to be there. I was told there once was an internment camp in our county and they had been transported from California and virtually imprisoned. Surprisingly they fell in love with the high plains and chose to stay and make their home in this friendly and beautiful area. I was proud to be their neighbor and they were a treasured part of our community. It was hard to believe these events had occurred and I had never been told. How very sorry I am this took place in the country I love. I pray that in the future this sort of injustice will never again take place. God bless these dear loyal people and God bless and forgive America.

Thank you for making a lasting tribute to our veterans and soldiers now passed. My Uncle (MSgt. USA, Retired) served with the 442 and was a recipient of the the Bronze Star. He has since passed a few years ago in Tucson, AZ where my father (Colonel USA, Retired) another WWII vet is now residing with my mother. My father took part in the liberation of some of the death camps and served as court officer in the proceeding war trials.

My Uncle (Colonel USA, Retired) is a veteran of Korea (Tank Commander) and now resides in Hawaii along with another Uncle (Colonel USA, Retired) who served several tours in Vietnam (Special Forces).

It means a lot to me that these brave souls not be forgotten. There was a movie (new release) made about the 442. It was supposed to have been completed but has yet to be released. It would be good to know when this will come to the big screen.

My dad is Samuel H. Gay he served in World War II. He was one of the few survivors of the Rapido river. He won a Bronze star and a Purple heart and I would like to just say how proud of him and how brave of a man he must have been. He went on to serve as a crash fireman for Civil Service he retired as Assistant Fire Chief, not only that he has always been a great man to his daughters all 5 of us. I am the grandson of Hans Johnsen USN MOH recipient during the Spanish American War and learned of your site through the recent Denver Post article.
As an MOH side note of Johnsen family history to honor my Grandfather's act of heroism and his consequent award of the MOH my Grandmother named my father:

I came to this site in search of a citation explaining the specifics of how my friend MOH Michael J. Novosel came to earn America's highest military honor. I was in awe with the number of heroes that stand in the same rank as he. I was proud to learn that several MOH recipients were Floridians just like myself. It really doesn't matter where you were born or raised or even what service you served in the heart of a hero beats within and expands beyond all boundaries when the time comes to do that deed. God himself placed that man on earth to perform that action of ultimate sacrifice, most met him soon after to hear him say "Well done my son, well done", while some went home to be with God some continued to march toward the future because his creator had more for him to do on this earth. Maybe to inspire others to care for their fellow man or to keep the torch shining brightly so in this dark world others could follow and remember that there is great goodness in each of us waiting for us to display it. Medal of Honor recipient or mother of children we all have a responsibility to set a good example and live by high morals and a strong code of ethic. My mother was an OR nurse during WWII, and served on Anzio Beach with the 2nd Auxiliary Surgical Group. At one time during the shelling and bombardment of Anzio, a piece of shrapnel tore through her tent and missed her by inches. She carried that piece of shrapnel in her purse until the day she died, and I now have the honor of carrying it with me.
She was able to keep in touch with some of her fellow nurses in the 2nd Aux, and that bond was priceless. They all shared the horror of Anzio, and were forever changed by it. Even many years after Anzio, they remained close friends and got together whenever they could.

Discovered my MOH ancestor in old family bible. Was curious to know who Capt. Robert McDonald was and my research led me to the Indian Wars where I found him. Have wonderful letters written by him describing his experiences in the New Mexico and Montana Territories in the 1800s. Will be sending you photo of his gravestone in Hayward, CA. this evening.

I just found this website while searching for information about about the "bronze star" award. My brother-in-law (who passed away on March 25, 2003) married my sister when I was only 4 years old, so to me he was like a brother. Anyway, I know he received a bronze star in the Vietnam war, he was in the Army and I know he served in the war and was stationed in Japan and Australia. My sister married him in 1970 and he never really talked about the war, but he was very young when he enlisted and I think he just kept everything inside him, because he never told anyone what he got the bronze star for. Is there any way we can find out how it achieved this medal? His two daughters are very interested, so they can share the story with their children when they are old enough to understand. His name was Charles Shelby Wagner and he was from Texas. Any help you can give will be appreciated. Thank You For Any Help You Can Give.

WOW!!! This is GREAT.. I have a son that is a marine. He is stationed at Camp Lejuene in North Carolina. He has been enlisted since Aug.1,2000. He is currently in Iraq. He has been away since Aug.27,2002. He left on a ship & was to be back home over 2 weeks ago. But, I am PROUD of him for all he has done for our country. GOD BLESS THE USA!!! GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS!!!

Greetings on March 19, 2003 the Day the swallows return to Capistrano and also St. Joseph's Day. This is an excellent web site which shows superior leadership by the originators of same.
I was at Sampson AFB from May 17-31, 1954. We weren't in a Flight, we were simply given two weeks processing and orientation and a chance to apply for a tech school. I ended up at the Air Police School at Parks AFB ( another basic training site) and stayed for several years as an instructor. Best Wishes to all.
