26th Marine Regiment: Vietnam War 1966 to 1970 We are looking for personnel who served in Vietnam as members of the 26th Marines. To Remember and To Reunite. Thank you for this exellent Home of Heroes website.

This is a great web-site. I am a Viet Nam vet who would like to pay
tribute to my father-in-law, Blair B. Costlow, who was a Purple Heart veteran
who fought in five major battles of WW2, including the D-Day invasion and the
battle of the Bulge. He was with 4th Infantry Division. It was
only until late in his life that he even acknowledged just what he did for all
Americans. He fought his way from Utah Beach through France and parts of
Germany! He left in January of 1999, but he will forever be in my heart as a
hero and a great father-in-law.

I think that your "GUEST BOOK" is a great service to all of us
vterans who hardly got recognizrd for our service. Oh sure, our families
and girl friends appreciated what we did, but that was about it. When I
served with the First Infantry Division (1st Admin. Co.) in 1967, hundreds of
GI's were dying every week and all they got (maybe) was a notice in their
local newspaper. Nowadays, one soldier or pilot or whatever gets killed
overseas and it's a national headline. Believe me, I am NOT, in any way,
belittling those who are fighting and dying for us today. They are doing
an incredible job. I guess that it would have been impossible to list
all of those who were killed or were MIA during the Viet Nam
"conflict." How times have changed.
I was fortunate to see the mobile version of the Viet Nam vet's memorial a few
years back and it was a very moving experience. It was also Veteran's
Day that day, so that made all the more special. 58,000+ names of those
who sacrificed their all for nothing is somrthing that I will never forget.
Also, let's remember all of the GI's who are not able to be home this holiday
season.

I want to thank you for taking on the arduous task of acknowledging the
heroes of our several branches of the service and various wars they fought in.
My uncle, Major Charles L. Thomas, was one of seven (7) black Medal Of Honor
recipients honored at a ceremony in Washington January 13, 1997 by President
Clinton. Our family had the distinct pleasure of accepting that highly
coveted and prestigious award that now sits in a military museum honoring its
own here in Michigan. We could never be so proud as we were that day to
be in my uncle's blood line. And more proud to be called an American
because we are never to proud to admit our mistakes and right our wrongs.
Keep up the good work and may God bless you.

I am looking for any relatives of Medal Of Honor recipient, Joel Parsons,
who served in Co.B, 4th West Virginia Infantry at Vicksburg, Mississippi on
5-22-1863. I am involved in a project of restoration of veteran's graves. Pvt.
Joel Parsons is buried in Union Cemetery, in Columbus, Ohio and is where my
research project started. I am particularly interested in contacting any of
Pvt. Parson's family, and would like to find a picture of him. I
contacted Mr. David Bradley, who is the head of the Veterans Administration
for Franklin County (Cols. Ohio), along with he and others worked to have Pvt.
Parsons enshrined in the Veterans Hall Of Fame in Sandusky, Ohio. I had the
privilege and honor to be on stage and receive Pvt. Parson's enshrinment
documents from Ohio Govenor Robert Taft on 11-8-2001. I would again be honored
to turn these documents over to the family of Pvt. Parsons, where they truly
belong. Any assistance anyone could give me would be deeply appreciated.

very impressed. A legacy such as this is invaluable to the children of
this world. To know of true hero's who unselfishly gave their life for

accessed your site for viewing, reports, etc. and that is important. A

Message from an European to Americans servicemen past and present :
You may have the feelings that europeans do not hold americans in high regard.
That now when you are busy fighting terrorism we leave you alone in the midst
of battle.
But not everyone here thinks or feels like that. Lots of people here
stand together with you. America has stood for what was right in the past and
stands for what is right now.
Where freedom is challenged by evil, american brave men and women fight and
die to secure that freedom for each of us.
I want to thank all american servicemen who fought for us in the Second World
War
"lest we forget."
By this I try to express my thanks for what you have done and given for
my freedom. I have the greatest respect and appreciation for you. You
liberated us and gave us our countries back. There are lots of people here in
Europe who will never forget your sacrifices. Also thank you for trasmiting
the same ideals of liberty freedom and peace to your sons and daughters who
keep defending the free world, our world.
We have not forget, You have not been forgotten. We are passing our gratitude
for what you did down to our children and grandchildren. We will do this by
teaching our children the price that was paid for their freedom. We will try to
pass this feeling of gratitude to generations to come, for the people you
liberated have not broken faith with you. We remember what you did and the
price you paid.
I will help my children understand the enormity of the gift that they each
have been given. I will teach my children to see the price that was paid for
their freedom. That thousands of americans died to assure that
they, european children, are free. That those who died sacrificed everything
they held dear so that we could be free. The knowledge of how precious this
gift is will help them understand that these men did not die in vain. That
even if we don't remember or know the names of those who died for
us we should hold sacred the cause for which they died.
I will tell my children that lots of american servicemen gave their lives with
no expectation of anything in return. This gift of freedom was fought for and
was given to me with no strings attached. I will tell my children that they
gave their lives and their legacy lives inside me and my only responsibility
now is that I protect it well so I can pass it down to my children and all
future generations. That only if we live under the delusion that we are
somehow entitled to freedom have we broken faith with those who died. I will
tell them that we are living their legacy and we must not be oblivious to
their sacrifice.
American Servicemen : again....Thank you, I have the greatest respect
and appreciation for you.

My Brother Victor Sippin, served on PT. Boat 555 of Ron.29 in WW 2. After a
meeting with the Free French (F.F.I.) in Port DuBouc, Southern France, the
boat struck a mine leaving the harbor on Aug.24, 1944. He and 4 other men were
lost. I am proud of my brother, who gave up his life for our great country. I

I worked at the Medal of Honor Convention in 2000 in Pueblo. At the time I
was an enlisted CAP cadet now I am an officer and I never forget the fun and enjoyment
I had at the convention. It was a life changing experience to meet and
listen to all of the MoH recipients. As much as I enjoyed this occasion
I hope that in the future these no longer occur. I hope that our differences
can be settled in the halls of congress rather than on the battlefields.
I hope that no more men and women have to see what these men have been though.

As one of the Kilbourne/Kilburn family historians I feel humbled every time
I visit a site on the Medal Of Honor. Especially since I found that Gideon
Welles (Secretary of the Navy for Pres. Lincoln) was himself a Kilburn
descendant. Then to find that General Charles E. Kilbourne (jr.) and Webb Cook
Hayes came from the same mold.
I have also had the privilege of knowing a fine Christian gentleman by the
name of Woody Williams. I thank GOD every day for giving us these heroes.

I am a combat airwar veteran of WWII. All I have to say is
that thousands of WWII veterans are having their stories stolen or lost before
they die. It is time for the Home of Heroes and other sourced to help
preserve these stories as told by the men who lived them before some upstart
author comes along and uses them to write a book to make money.
The veterans ought to be
heard and time is running out.
Therefore I propose that the Home of Heroes start a project to get sons and
daughters of WWII veterans to submit the stories before it is too late.
One way is by a recording they can make of their parents or grandparent.
What a great tribute that would be to the veterans to have their words
recorded forever.

A very valuable site where the truth about US history can be
found. Brits are fed a steady diet of revisionism and no civics at all; we are
'subjects' not people - and as such, don't need niceties like a Constitution
or Bill of Rights. If only people here would wake up and follow the example
set for us by both the US and France . . . instead of wasting so much on
maintaining the wax museum called a monarchy we might not have a percentage of
people who live in appalling poverty (but without the sun - heat OR eat!) and
are kept that way by the determination of those who legislate to ensure the
poor stay poor - completely without access to justice, proper medical care or
housing. Here's to the hope that study of your site may help bring about
changes that would allow those with the will to pull themselves up to do so
instead of being prevented, by the system itself, from breaking out of the
poverty trap. Your site demonstrates that true liberty is not achieved at the
cost of patriotism or any other virtue, but that patriotism flourishes better
under liberty and equality of opportunity.
