This is a great web-site.  I am a Viet Nam vet who would like to pay tribute to my father-in-law, Blair B. Costlow, who was a Purple Heart veteran who fought in five major battles of WW2, including the D-Day invasion and the battle of the Bulge.  He was with 4th Infantry Division.  It was only until late in his life that he even acknowledged just what he did for all Americans.  He fought his way from Utah Beach through France and parts of Germany! He left in January of 1999, but he will forever be in my heart as a hero and a great father-in-law.

I think that your "GUEST BOOK" is a great service to all of us vterans who hardly got recognizrd for our service.  Oh sure, our families and girl friends appreciated what we did, but that was about it.  When I served with the First Infantry Division (1st Admin. Co.) in 1967, hundreds of GI's were dying every week and all they got (maybe) was a notice in their local newspaper.  Nowadays, one soldier or pilot or whatever gets killed overseas and it's a national headline.  Believe me, I am NOT, in any way, belittling those who are fighting and dying for us today.  They are doing an incredible job.  I guess that it would have been impossible to list all of those who were killed or were MIA during the Viet Nam "conflict."  How times have changed.         I was fortunate to see the mobile version of the Viet Nam vet's memorial a few years back and it was a very moving experience.  It was also Veteran's Day that day, so that made all the more special.  58,000+ names of those who sacrificed their all for nothing is somrthing that I will never forget.  Also, let's remember all of the GI's who are not able to be home this holiday season.

I want to thank you for taking on the arduous task of acknowledging the heroes of our several branches of the service and various wars they fought in.  My uncle, Major Charles L. Thomas, was one of seven (7) black Medal Of Honor recipients honored at a ceremony in Washington January 13, 1997 by President Clinton.  Our family had the distinct pleasure of accepting that highly coveted and prestigious award that now sits in a military museum honoring its own here in Michigan.  We could never be so proud as we were that day to be in my uncle's blood line.  And more proud to be called an American because we are never to proud to admit our mistakes and right our wrongs.  Keep up the good work and may God bless you.

I am looking for any relatives of Medal Of Honor recipient, Joel Parsons, who served in Co.B, 4th West Virginia Infantry at Vicksburg, Mississippi on 5-22-1863. I am involved in a project of restoration of veteran's graves. Pvt. Joel Parsons is buried in Union Cemetery, in Columbus, Ohio and is where my research project started. I am particularly interested in contacting any of Pvt. Parson's family, and would like to find a picture of him.  I contacted Mr. David Bradley, who is the head of the Veterans Administration for Franklin County (Cols. Ohio), along with he and others worked to have Pvt. Parsons enshrined in the Veterans Hall Of Fame in Sandusky, Ohio. I had the privilege and honor to be on stage and receive Pvt. Parson's enshrinment documents from Ohio Govenor Robert Taft on 11-8-2001. I would again be honored to turn these documents over to the family of Pvt. Parsons, where they truly belong. Any assistance anyone could give me would be deeply appreciated.

I have just briefly looked at the information, etc. of your site and was very impressed.  A legacy such as this is invaluable to the children of this world.  To know of true hero's who unselfishly gave their life for their country is important.  I can see that many school children have accessed your site for viewing, reports, etc. and that is important.  A way to remember just what the USA and those living here really stand for.  Thanks.  A retired Marine Aviator.

I had the chance of meeting and talking to him for several hours a few years ago while he was visiting NAS JACKSONVILLE. Message from an European to Americans servicemen past and present :

You may have the feelings that europeans do not hold americans in high regard. That now when you are busy fighting terrorism we leave you alone in the midst of battle.
But not everyone here thinks or feels like that. Lots of people here stand together with you. America has stood for what was right in the past and stands for what is right now.
Where freedom is challenged by evil, american brave men and women fight and die to secure that freedom for each of us.

I want to thank all american servicemen who fought for us in the Second World War
"lest we forget."

By this I try  to express my thanks for what you have done and given for my freedom. I have the greatest respect and appreciation for you. You liberated us and gave us our countries back. There are lots of people here in Europe who will never forget your sacrifices. Also thank you for trasmiting the same ideals of liberty freedom and peace to your sons and daughters who keep defending the free world, our world.

We have not forget, You have not been forgotten. We are passing our gratitude for what you did down to our children and grandchildren. We will do this by teaching our children the price that was paid for their freedom. We will try to pass this feeling of gratitude to generations to come, for the people you liberated have not broken faith with you. We remember what you did and the price you paid.

I will help my children understand the enormity of the gift that they each have been given. I will teach my children to see the price that was paid for their freedom. That  thousands of americans  died to assure that  they, european children, are free. That those who died sacrificed everything they held dear so that we could be free. The knowledge of how precious this gift is will help them understand that these men did not die in vain. That even if we  don't remember or know  the names of those who died for us we should hold sacred the cause for which they died.

I will tell my children that lots of american servicemen gave their lives with no expectation of anything in return. This gift of freedom was fought for and was given to me with no strings attached. I will tell my children that they gave their lives and their legacy lives inside me and my only responsibility now is that I protect it well so I can pass it down to my children and all future generations. That only if we live under the delusion that we are somehow entitled to freedom have we broken faith with those who died. I will tell them that we are living their legacy and we must not be oblivious to their sacrifice.

American Servicemen : again....Thank you,  I have the greatest respect and appreciation for you.

Dear Friends,
I am so moved by this website!   My husband and I met and got to know Cpl. Rudulfo Hernandez, one of the great heroes.  He was a born again Christan, like Col. Sitter. It is listed here.
Also, my husband met Col. Carl Leonard Sitter--and what a fine, outstanding Christian and war hero he was, too!  He died in 2000.

My Brother Victor Sippin, served on PT. Boat 555 of Ron.29 in WW 2. After a meeting with the Free French (F.F.I.) in Port DuBouc, Southern France, the boat struck a mine leaving the harbor on Aug.24, 1944. He and 4 other men were lost. I am proud of my brother, who gave up his life for our great country. I consider it a privilege to put his name in this wonderful guest book.

I worked at the Medal of Honor Convention in 2000 in Pueblo. At the time I was an enlisted CAP cadet now I am an officer and I never forget the fun and enjoyment I had at the convention.  It was a life changing experience to meet and listen to all of the MoH recipients.  As much as I enjoyed this occasion I hope that in the future these no longer occur.  I hope that our differences can be settled in the halls of congress rather than on the battlefields.  I hope that no more men and women have to see what these men have been though.

I am the son of a member of the 442nd regimental combat team, I company, 3rd Battalion, who regretfully passed away in 1991, he will surely be missed. I have read the history of the 100/442nd and have been profoundly moved by the acts of heroism, by my father, and the men like him, who served their country with honor. Your website does them a great honor in remembrances of their service and sacrifice to our great country. Please keep the flame of remembrance burning brightly for these great men! As one of the Kilbourne/Kilburn family historians I feel humbled every time I visit a site on the Medal Of Honor. Especially since I found that Gideon Welles (Secretary of the Navy for Pres. Lincoln) was himself a Kilburn descendant. Then to find that General Charles E. Kilbourne (jr.) and Webb Cook Hayes came from the same mold.
I have also had the privilege of knowing a fine Christian gentleman by the name of Woody Williams. I thank GOD every day for giving us these heroes.

I am a combat airwar veteran of WWII.  All I have to say is that thousands of WWII veterans are having their stories stolen or lost before they die.  It is time for the Home of Heroes and other sourced to help preserve these stories as told by the men who lived them before some upstart author comes along and uses them to write a book to make money.
The veterans ought to be heard and time is running out.
Therefore I propose that the Home of Heroes start a project to get sons and daughters of WWII veterans to submit the stories before it is too late.  One way is by a recording they can make of their parents or grandparent.   What a great tribute that would be to the veterans to have their words recorded forever.

I was searching for a topic to discuss with my class. I couldn't come up with anything to keep their interest. My husband (former helicopter pilot US ARMY) suggested "heroes". I didn't want to do anything on 9-11 as it has been over done in the media and would not hold the attention of my class. I work in a court school for kids with alot of problems. I typed in Heros and found your web site. Now this is a topic my kids will relate with. I am proud to be an American, however there are some who call themselves Americans and still let these kinds of things happen to our elderly. To come together as a nation, we must protect all Americans, not just the ones that don't need a walker. I will visit your site again and keep up the good work.

A very valuable site where the truth about US history can be found. Brits are fed a steady diet of revisionism and no civics at all; we are 'subjects' not people - and as such, don't need niceties like a Constitution or Bill of Rights. If only people here would wake up and follow the example set for us by both the US and France . . . instead of wasting so much on maintaining the wax museum called a monarchy we might not have a percentage of people who live in appalling poverty (but without the sun - heat OR eat!) and are kept that way by the determination of those who legislate to ensure the poor stay poor - completely without access to justice, proper medical care or housing. Here's to the hope that study of your site may help bring about changes that would allow those with the will to pull themselves up to do so instead of being prevented, by the system itself, from breaking out of the poverty trap. Your site demonstrates that true liberty is not achieved at the cost of patriotism or any other virtue, but that patriotism flourishes better under liberty and equality of opportunity.

We honor them with our thoughts everyday, but on Memorial Day every year we meet at the Viet Nam Vet monument on the Animas river in Durango Colorado to honor our fallen Viet Nam Vet Combat brothers, we are not part of any organized national group, just our common bond of combat... we will never forget and just as in combat we still watch each others back, and just as in combat we often seem to be the only ones who really care...Gene Richardson former 1LT, 2/60th Infantry, 9th Infantry Division 67-68

.......I just left the citation site for MOH recipent Cpt.Riley L. Pitts(Oklahoma).I served as his RTO with Charlie Co. 2/27th Wolfhounds of the 25th Infantry Division, Cu Chi VIETNAM.I still grieve this warriors'death October 31,1967.I will carry his memory deep within my soul ,forever.Any fallen Wolfhound was a great loss to us.We were as strong as a family could be.I'm so proud to be an American and to have fought with this great fighting unit. This War will be debated for centuries to come, as to the lessons learned but,it can never replace the lives lost, the MIA's never accounted for, the families of loved ones shattered, and the Scar that was etched out across America. The price that was paid,is on the "WALL". "American's" , this Veterans Day, November 11 2002 marks the 20th anniversary of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington,DC. Please show your respect, and support, to these fallen American Men and Women, who paid the ultimate sacrifice for this great country, by being there.

We thought we had lost one of our future fishing clients address and I went to one site and typed in Cafferata and it brought up Hector Cafferata. Well that has to be him. Sure enough and it took me to his military background of being one of the recipients of "The Congressional Medal Of Honor". So he called and I asked if that was him. He was taken by surprise and asked how did I know? I told him and so when he arrived I must say it was an honor to meet him.

Really enjoyed this site. Just this morning we were at the VA Cemetery here in Marion and there are three of the Medal of Honor men buried here. Their stones are different than the rest of the men buried here. After our visit to the cemetery I looked up to see what they did to get the medal. One was in the Indian War, and two were the veterans of the Civil War, one Army and one Navy. I appreciate all that these men have done for us and our country, but also all those who had served their time in the various wars we have been in.

Thank You, the articles were great and I feel the shame of our Nation for not treating these gentlemen as the Hero and humans that they are. I was aboard the USS James C. Owens DD-776 during the Korean war and we took enemy fire at Sonjin Harbour killing Three and wounding nine. There were men aboard that wre awarded citations for their heroism and probubly many more who deserved recognition. I also served with MACV in '65 & '66 in the Mekong Delta I can't remember all of the casualties dead and wounded we took during that time. The only man that I remember is Navy LT. Ray Ellis.

I have a special request. I have a friend, a Nam vet, who, because of his "unique" service to his country, will never be able to "enjoy" the recognition he deserves. However, he has composed a piece of music that tells the story without words. I would ask that you visit this page and listen. The url is listed above. If it shouldn't work, copy & paste into your browser. http://cajamnet.net/inrequiem.htm Nothing would please him more than to receive your comments. I am not Jaime Pacheco's son, but his nephew. What a beautiful tribute to his memory and our country. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Sterner and his wife at the Pacheco/Vejar family reunion in Hobbs New Mexico at the end of June 2002. I was much impressed with Mr. Sterner's gentle nature and obvious affection for my Uncle "Jimmy's" family. I last saw Uncle Jimmy in Lemoore,N.A.S.,Calif., where my father, Roberto Pacheco, U.S.N. Ret., was stationed. Uncle Jimmy was visiting us before he left for Nam. My memories of him were of a gentle caring person and I missed him for a long time. Seeing Mr. Sterner and visiting with him brought back bittersweet memories but allowed me to realize that a little bit of Uncle Jimmy lives on in all of us privileged enough to have known him no matter how short a time. I saw him in Mr. Sterner and see him in Michael(my cousin:Jaime's son). I like to think that he is in me. Thank-you, Mr. Sterner, for this tribute to our families, our country, and to God. GOD IS GOOD! God bless and keep you all...

Excellent, excellent site!! Very well done. I chanced on this site while doing a search on the Pledge of Allegiance, and so I came in the back door, so to speak. I decided to go to your homepage and take some time to tour thru the rest of your site, where I found many interesting things. I have created a new 'Favorites" folder called "Patriotism" and your site is the first to be added. I will definitely be back.

Doug, Thank you for putting up and keeping this web site going. I received this an email from Colonel Wesley L. Fox, USMC, Retired, a member of my Veterans Organization the "First Battalion Ninth Marines Network, Inc.", of which I'm the National Membership Committee Chairman, about the story of Mr. John finn. Colonel Fox is the only surviving Medal of Honor Recipient from the 1st Battalion 9th Marines in Vietnam, where as a First Lieutenant he was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions on February 22, 1969, during Operation Dewey Canyon. I sent an email to the Montel Williams show, 48 Hours and 60 Minutes shows saying the following: I thought that you would like to due a show and educate the public on this Nations eight Medals awarded for Heroism in Combat. For the Department of the Navy they are as follows: 1. Medal of Honor, 2. Navy Cross, 3. Silver Star, 4. Distinguished Flying Cross, 5. Bronze Star Medal, 6. Air Medal, 7. Navy Commendation Medal, 8. Navy Achievement Medal. This story got me MAD! The one person even the President of the United States (The Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces) must salute first is a Medal of Honor (MOH) recipient. Because of the way Mr. Finn was treated it infuriates me even more that the level of ignorance has grown and our national patriotism has deteriated to this level, this is partially due to the fact that since our schools curriculum quit teaching "American and World History" and started substituting a program called "Social Studies" in their place. I was watching the evening news and heard a report that 57% of our High School students couldn't pass the basic History exam! Please share this story and help educate the public.

I am a member of the Delaware Medal of Honor Historical Association and would to inform everyone we are attempting to inform as many individuals in the State of Delaware about the 14 Medal of Honor recipients from Delaware. We have asked the Governor to name a road at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery after SGT James P. Connor, a Recipient from WW II. The Governor thought this was a good idea and said she would make it so. The Delaware Veterans Affairs Commission has decided they do not want to name the road after any individual in fear they will have every organization you can think of want the same thing. We have spoken to many veterans and they have said they would be proud that the road would be named after the only Medal of Honor Recipient buried there. I am a cousin to SGT William L. Nelson also a Medal of Honor Recipient from Delaware during WW II and asking as many individual to please send my an e-mail in support of our effort. I hope as many of you as possible will contact me. Our organization is doing our best to keep the story of each one of these Heroic Men alive. Thanks To All Eric A. Loveless, Sr, MSgt, USAF (ret)
