Born:  August 12, 1855 at Madison County, VA

Entered Service in the US Army from Baltimore, MD

Earned The Medal of Honor During the Indian Campaigns For heroism January 24, 1877 at Florida Mountains, NM

Died:  August 18, 1906 at the age of 51

Corporal Clinton Greaves was part of a small detachment dispatched to the Florida Mountains of New Mexico to locate a band of renegade Apache Indians and persuaded them to surrender. The small cavalry patrol was suddenly surrounded by hostile warriors and savage hand-to-hand combat ensured. Corporal Greaves was in the center of the fighting, and shot his way through the Apache warriors, often resorting to using his rifle as a club. His fierce and courageous combat action broke a gap in the enemy ranks, enabling his surrounded companions to break free.
