Born:  August, 1842 at Hammondsport, NY

Entered Service in the US Army from Geneva, NY

Earned The Medal of Honor During the Civil War For heroism July 03, 1863 at Gettysburg, PA

Died:  June 22, 1864 at the age of 21

Captain Morris Brown was one of 63 men who was awarded the Medal of Honor for heroism in the battle at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 1 - 3, 1863, and one of only two men killed in action during their Medal of Honor moment of heroism. His unit was located in Ziegler's Grove on the last day of the battle, and was one of the regiments that countercharged to push the rebels back. During this charge Captain Brown captured the flag of the 14th North Carolina Infantry (Confederate States of America). He later died of wounds received in this heroic action. The captured battle flag became a great source of inspiration to the men of the 126th New York. Among the battle honors on the captured battle flag of the 14th North Carolina was "Harpers Ferry". In that action the 126th Regiment, including Captain Brown, had been captured by the 14th North Carolina.
