TAPS
Fading light dims the sight,
And a star gems the sky,
Gleaming bright.
From afar drawing nigh,
Falls the night.
Day is done, gone the sun,
From the lake, From the hills,
From the sky.
All is well, safely rest,
God is nigh.
Then good night, Peaceful night,
Till the light of the dawn
Shineth bright,
God is near, do not fear,
Friend, good night. |

Quartermaster
Upton earned the Medal of Honor for heroism while serving aboard
the U.S.S. Stewart at anchorage on the night when there was an
internal explosion on the nearby ship Florence H. The sea in the
vicinity of wreckage was covered by a mass of boxes of smokeless
powder, which were repeatedly exploding. Frank M. Upton, of the
U.S.S. Stewart, plunged overboard to rescue a survivor who was
surrounded by powder boxes and too exhausted to help himself.
Fully realizing the danger from continual explosion of similar
powder boxes in the vicinity, he risked his life to save the life
of this man.
