Customize Your
HomeOfHeroes E-Books

When you download the Microsoft WORD version of any of our books, you can customize the title page (and sometimes even the cover) with personal information about yourself or your organization.  It is a 2-step process:

 STEP 1:

The WORD document is protected so that it can not be accidentally changed upon download.  In order to make changes, STEP 1 is to "unprotect" the document.  It is really quite simple.

  1. Make sure the file is open in Microsoft WORD
  2. On the MENU at the top of the WORD window click on "TOOLS" and when the drop-down list appears, select "UNPROTECT DOCUMENT".  No password is required.  Now you can make edits to your E-book.  (We ask as a courtesy that you do NOT delete the HomeOfHeroes.com information.)

STEP 2:

Go to the Title Page (in some books you will find a similar block on the cover as well) and look for a blank box like that shown in the screen shots.  Some of these may be plain and square, others may have a colorful texture.  The main thing is, when you click on the shape, it will open a text box, identified by a slanted line border and sizing handles at each corner.  DO NOT RESIZE the text box, or your title page will go #@$$%##!    (Note the blue, vertical line in the center of the shaded text box.  That is the INSERTION POINT for document editing.)

When you see the insertion point, you can begin typing whatever text you wish to include in the text box, format the font face, color, size, etc. as with any other WORD document.

After entering your text, we strongly recommend protecting the document, then saving the revised document so you do not accidentally edit it at a later time.  To protect the document after adding your personal touch to the text box,

  1. Go to TOOLS on the Menu

  2. Select PROTECT DOCUMENT

  3. Select the option to protect the document for FORMS as seen in the screen-shot at right.  (You will not see this option unless you have deselected the text box after customizing it with text.  To deselect it, simply click anywhere in the document where you see a white space.)

BINDING YOUR E-BOOK(s)

Most of these books are small enough that they can be stapled along the left margin for an economical binding.

If you are giving one of these books as a gift, you can have it attractively comb-bound at a local print shop for a dollar or two.  If you are planning to print a large quantity of book, you can purchase a personal comb-binding machine for about $75 that will enable to you apply your own comb-binding for about twenty-five cents per book.

E-Books for Fund Raising

We offer these books to our visitors free of charge, as we believe in sharing our American heritage as freely as it has been passed on to all of us.  We DO allow non-profit organizations, museums, etc. to print and sell these books for their OWN fund raising programs.  All we ask is that you honor our own good intentions in making these freely available to all, and use them for the same good purposes.

Thank you and enjoy,

Doug and Pam Sterner
